Job Description:

The R&D Tax Manager in the Research & Development Tax Credit group supervises R&D projects, researches tax issues, conducts fieldwork, and supports sales and marketing efforts. They will be tasked with developing and maintaining client relationships as well as delivering a quality work product. Managers are expected to have a command of federal and some state R&D rules and relevant court cases and should be able to consult our clients on calculating, documenting and sustaining R&D Tax Credits in a variety of industries including manufacturing, software, engineering and construction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct fieldwork – Managers will conduct fieldwork specific to the consulting projects. Field work may include visiting the client location, touring client facilities, investigating relevant facts, analyzing accounting information, preparing cost lead schedules and cost summary schedules, completing appropriate tax computations, and preparing written reports summarizing the findings.

Legal research – Tax research by nature requires that Managers become “experts” in a particular field of the tax law. Managers will conduct research both in general and client specific and will be required to read and study relevant tax material related to the specific line of business.

Manage workload and train staff – Managers will be required to “multi-task” and manage various project tasks at once. The Manager will also train and supervise staff and will be ultimately responsible for the overall project and deliverables. Managers are expected to initiate internal communication regarding status of tasks, relevant technical issues discovered, status of workload, expected due dates, etc.

Assist with IRS audits, respond to IRS inquiries, draft opinion letters and write other technical memoranda.

Travel – Some travel may be required. However, most fieldwork can be completed from the office.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university
  • 5+ years of R&D credit experience
  • Experience in a public accounting firm or corporate taxation experience is preferred
  • Excellent research, verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong project and people management skills
  • Ability to travel and work at client locations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

We’re seeking a senior auditor in our Irvine and Glendale offices who is eager to build a career with our firm.

A day in the life of a senior auditor…

You will be responsible for supervising less experienced staff auditors and for supervising audits to clients in the insurance, construction, manufacturing, or real estate industry. You will work in one of our offices, located in California, performing, planning and/or reporting for your clients. You might even be researching a complex accounting topic for your client. Alternatively, you might be meeting up to lead your audit team at your client’s office where you will work directly with the controller, CFOs and CEOs as a trusted advisor.

The job requires…

  • a bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field and be a licensed CPA or have passed all parts of the CPA Exam;
  • three or more years of recent public accounting experience, including experience supervising staff accountants;
  • technically savvy with excellent writing and communication skills; and
  • ability to prioritize effectively, multi-task, handle multiple assignments and thrive while performing under tight deadlines.
