Sona Sefcikova, CPA, CPCU
Sona built her career in auditing, and is at her best when helping clients understand and determine the correct accounting for complex transactions.
Her clients appreciate that Sona’s detail-oriented nature keeps her “on top of everything,” especially when she uncovers issues and problems they weren’t aware of. She has found that she learns valuable insights when she discovers that a client has not interpreted their data appropriately. Those clients are the best teachers, “though I suspect they like me a little less than I like them!”

Sona audits property & casualty insurance companies, focusing on homeowners, commercial multiple peril, medical malpractice and dental insurance products. She also audits employee benefit plans.

Futbal or football?
“Futbal, also known as soccer, has always been close to my heart. My grandpa played professionally, and his passion for sports has been passed down through the generations. I’ve grown up loving to play sports myself.”
Favorite vacation?
“I’m lucky to live in one of the best vacation spots — Southern California. From time to time, I also enjoy traveling back to Slovakia to visit my family.”
Favorite way to spend a Saturday afternoon?
“Playing sports with friends.”
Favorite school supply?
“None. That’s always been my sister’s territory. I’m not kidding — she used to spend her summer breaks rewriting her notes with colorful pens and highlighters.”
Advice for aspiring CPAs?
“Preparing for the CPA exam begins long before you open a review book. It really starts in your university classes, if not earlier. Focus on truly understanding the material as you go. If something isn’t clear, ask a classmate or professor to explain it, or look it up online. Most importantly, build a solid foundation in debits and credits — you’d be surprised how many graduates struggle with that.”
