California is unique in many ways. It’s different from the Federal tax credit in one big way and that is in the way it defines gross receipts. So for California purposes, if you’re a company that doesn’t have tangible goods sold and shipped within California, and you just provide services, your gross receipts are effectively zero, which means a greater California R&D benefit for you.
